Uskmouth Butterfly Transect, 1st April

A transect of approx. 2.5 miles is carried out every week from the 1st week in April until the end of September. The temperature must be above 13c and it mustn't be too windy, so finding a good day to do the transect is often tricky! The transect is carried out by Voluntary Warden, Sheila and its been done since 2002. Data is given to Butterfly Conservation and forms part of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme.
As this website has now been adopted by the Monmouthshire Moth & Butterfly Group as their official website, I intend to post the transect results on a weekly basis. Here's the 1st one of 2014:
comma - 2, both nectaring on blackthorn blossom.
small tortoiseshell - 5
peacock - 13, many on sallow flowers.

If you are interested in starting a transect of your own, please contact Butterfly Conservation.
